Ok its done. We are out nothing we can do about it now. Lets look to the future and try to figure out who the next manager will be. I cant see him being English. Simply for the following reason.
The last English manager to win the title was Howard Wilkinson in 1992 and the FA cup was won in 1995 by Joe Royal.
The papers have chucked in the usual suspects. Alladyce, mourinho, scorari etc. but I was thinking what about JOL?
I think whoever they choose and I don’t think it will be soon needs to be a big team manager who can deal with big egos.

If they want an Englishman, the Terry Venables is the only choise.

Venebles was part of the current team that got the boot.
Whoever they pick i thnk should be paid on success not failure. Because mclaren refused to quit he gets the rest of his contract paid up.
This is lunacy. Why work for 4 years when you can get 4 yrs salary in two years by not achieving objectives.
I hope the next manager only gets a 2 yr deal with lots of incentives for success.

Didnt see this thread while I made mine so i'll repeat it here:
Well Mclaren has been sacked as England manager which is the best news about our home nations football team. It was obvious that it was going to happen and yes a larger scale than Jol but comaprisons are similar, difference is Mclaren hadn't actually acheived anything with England where as Jol did with Spurs. Anyway debate on who FA should appoint will continue and im glad WC qualifying draw is this weekend so they can study that and see who would be best suited to get us through. I for one thinks they shouldnt be British and no matter what you say about Sven he took us to 3 quarter finals and no one can match that. Yes Bobby Robson was very good and of course Alf ramsey but other than that Sven did a pretty good job!

With sven and robson it was the press that wanted them out.
Just like its really the press that want mourinho. and fans read them and say "thats a good idea".
This time the fa should pick on ability and not a popularity contest. The best club manager is not necessarily the best internation manager. So if they pick Mourinho or steve tilson ( southend utd) they should choose the man because of his international potential.
by the way
Roy hogson nearly pulled it off with Finland in a really tough group.

Only blinkered people believe the papers. Unfortunately there are alot out there.
Did you see who they are consulting regarding advise for who to pick?
Michell Platini, Roy Hodgeson and John Toshack. What the f***????
Talk to the premiership managers and Englands ex players.
Mourinho is the general consensus. Not because the papers say so, but because he has a proven track record in England and in Europe, because he has the respect of the players and of the fans and of the press. He won't take sh*t from the media or the FA. He won't worry about dropping players who put clubs first.

What the FA need to do is, besides choosing the right manager, they need to review contract clauses, payoff of £2.5 million should be discarded, they need to get someone in who wants to put England back on the "football map" and not just for the lovely package that goes with the job.

if they recruited someone on a 2 yr contract i.e to qualify for each tournament instead between each world cup we wouldnt have this problem. The trouble is we wont get the sort of manager we would like without a long term commitment.

The main problem is there is too much greed in the game.

But what does Barwick know about football? He is shaped like a football but that's about it.
If he has to go and ASK John Toshack, Michelle Platini, Roy Hodgeson and Franz Beckenbaur then he shouldn't be in the job!
None of the above are involved with the English game, I doubt if any of them even like England.
As for Mourinho, if he does want the job, that cretin parked outside his house in Portugal with a tv crew, will probably put him off it.
I would have loved it if Mourinho grabbed the twat by the ears and put him in front of the camera and said "I wanted the job, but because of this pr*ck and others like him, now I don't"

I do think Roy Hodgeson has an excellent pedigree in managing international sides. What he did for the swiss was amazing. And despite the difficult group Finland were just a whisker away. He is english, He knows the english game, but has very low profile.

He knows the English game? He managed Blackburn badly and done ok abroad with some minnows.
He wouldn't be able to cope with the ego's in the English game.

and Graham Taylor done well with Watford and Ron Greenwood done well with West Ham and McLaren even done ok with boro.
England is bigger with bigger pressures. Managing to do well with teams like Finland and Switzerland when the expectations aren't huge is not the same.
Seriously, if it was a straight choice between Redknob and Hodgeson who would you choose?
For me it would be Harry all the way. The fact that he got wet spam relegated is a big plus

i wouldnt pick either. The FA will pick a high profile manager as opposed to a good international one. I would pick Stuart Pearce. He is one great motivator.

So was Kevin Keagan. You need a bit more to win the WC.
Above all you need to be able to cope with pressure and keep it away from your players. Venners was ideal. Master tactician, had the press eating out of his palm and the players loved him.
Mourinho is really the only sensible choice. As long as the media don't put him off.
