I must admit i am NOT in favour of video Refs as i think controversy is part and parcel of football.
They tried it in America with US football but they found the game became boring they now have a challenge rule.
They use it in Rugby League to some success but after game chat has diminshed.
Cricket use it to great success.
But for football No way. The beauty about football is that the same rules apply whether you a premier league side or a conference one.
I think all that is needed is a linesman behind each goal. This will resolve so many bad decisions e.g (mendes at man u) and the same rules can be passed all they way down the leagues. Plus they will still be enough "iffy" decisions to talk to your mates afterwards.

I am actually in favor of limited exposure to video replay. If the use is limited to penalties conceded, or goals conceded, then just as they do in the NFL, give each Manager a challenge per half, if they wish to challenge a penalty decision, or a goal conceded then let them, the ownus then becomes thiers.
provided it is used in limited situations then it should not waste much time.
On another note, the situation that occured on Sunday with Blackburn, Tugay being sent off was of course a joke. But I think the solution to this problem is to allow a team who has a player sent off to replace that player with a sub if one is available. That way the teams will generally finish with 11 men each, the club/player sent off will still be fined/banned, so the offending team will still be punished, but the fans who pay thousands of pounds each week will not suffer. We at Spurs have faced two major sendings off in the past few years, Simon davis at Arsenal, a joke, but cost us the game, and Mido against Chelsea last season, another joke, but cost us the game.
Changes have to be made, Tugay just echoed the problem once again.
Regards
Steve

I think that the video ref should be brought in, but not for goals or penalty decisions. These are part and parcel of our game and it must be left to the referee and his assistants.
At the moment, I feel that the Assistant referees (and the fourth official for that) are a waste of space.
The decision which they get wrong most often is OFF SIDE.
The game has become so quick that the naked eye just cannot make an accurate decision.
The game will not be delayed, as teams will be allowed to continue with the attack.
If a goal is scored, it can be easily checked on replay whilst all the celebrations are going on. If the ball is cleared, the game can continue and no harm is done.
The assistant referee's can then concentrate on the lines and on any other misdemeanours.
I also believe that video evidence should be used after the games and if players are caught cheating (diving with NO CONTACT), they should be banned for 4 weeks (first offence) 6 weeks (second) 8 weeks (third) etc. They'll soon stop.

One of the Problems with video ref is. When Sky show a live game they have at least 35 cameras dotted about. At other games there is no more than 10 cameras some premier league matches have on about 5 or 6.
For this to work all clubs should have the same amount of cameras.
What happens if say Man U play a cup game against Hereford. Does video refs apply and if so How? What if in the same round carlisle play Torquay. These clubs cannot afford to put in video equipment.
The easiest option has to be the linesmen behind the goal. Cheap, fast Effective and everyone get the same treatment.

That's why it should only be used for offside decisions. They are pretty straight forward and from a high angle so no one in the way. If the camera is inconclusive then the referee makes the decision, end of. No more arguments.

I do not agree with video replays. I would like to see the following changes
1.
I think a Camera on the goal line which buzzes or something if the ball crosses the line.
2.
Use 4 Linesmen, 2 each side, should easily sort out the offside problems.
3.
A Timekeeper who looks after the clock and takes the onus off of the Ref.
If you have an elecronic 3rd eye and keep stopping for replays it will kill the game. There would be no banter after any game, it would be all too clinical.
