Jol retains Spurs hope

Dutch tactician not closing door on Spurs return

Jol: Open to Spurs return
I still have the feeling that you never know.
Jol on Spurs return
Quotes of the week

Former Tottenham manager Martin Jol believes he could once again manage Spurs.

The Dutch tactician only lost his job at White Hart Lane last week following a below-par start to the campaign.

Jol has seen the likes of Ottmar Hitzfeld return to Bayern Munich and believes a chance could be there for him to return to White Hart Lane in the future.

"I'm a fighter. I still have the feeling that you never know," he told the Sunday Times.

"I was thinking of Ottmar Hitzfeld. He left, waited two-and-a-half years, returned. In football it's all about circumstances, opportunities.

"I realised I had to move on now and Tottenham will do fine. In a couple of years I'm not sure the same people will be there (on the board)."

Expectation

Jol was happy with his Spurs record, but felt the weight of expectation on his shoulders may dictate that his tenure will be deemed a failure.

The 51-year-old believes the likes of Arsene Wenger have been given more time, whereas his record at the club was not enough to satisfy the powers that be.

"Wenger: fourth the last couple of seasons. Did he win something? Not the league since 2004," he continued.

"Did Arsenal say, 'You have to win a prize or finish third?' No, because he's the man. He can say, 'I need time'.
"If Newcastle, Manchester City, Aston Villa finish fifth, you get a big celebration. Spurs is different."

I would hope that eventually BMJ would be able to prove that he is capable of taking the mighty Spurs further and I would love to see him back at the Lane in the near future. MARTIN JOLS BLUE AND WHITE ARMY.

Without a shadow of a doubt.

He has taken us to our highest premier league position and retained it, of course I would welcome him back.

I watched some the former spurs stars which were applauded at the Aston Villa (125 Years) Game and I would welcome Martin Jol back ahead of some of them.

Would welcome him back with open arms but not in the capacity of manager. He took us as far as he could and that's it. Thanks for the memories

Jol has gone now so along with speculating left right and centre about board talk should only be about Ramos, Poyet, players, football, results and WHL etc. I wonder if Chelsea still mention Moanio cos they seem to have moved on so we should do the same.

Andy, this is a forum that can discuss whatever subject we want (within limits), what makes you think that we can only discuss about Ramos, Poyet etc, etc, is a load of rubbish. If Chelsea mention Mourinho or not, that's not our problem, it's theirs.

He has gone now and Ramos is the man in charge and deserves a proper crack at the job.

How long should we give him? Same time as Jol? Longer?

All I can say is that IMHO Martin Jol was sacked far too soon. I didn't want him to go in the first place.

But now we have Juande Ramos and we must back him. If he makes us successfull does anyone think he'll hang around? Should Real Madrid or Barca call him, do you think he will hang around?

IMO I believe Martin Jol would have stayed. That's why I would welcome him back should the circumstances require it.
